Change your life and Remove Lower Back Pain with a New Mattress!

Is this Situation Familiar to you?

Lower back pain is all too common these days. Most people don't realize that it could be your mattress! If your mattress doesn't provide enough support, or incorrect support it can cause a whole sleigh of spinal problems from neck/shoulder pain to all different types of back pain including lower back pain!

What Can you Do About It?

There is always something you can do about it, start with a few common symptoms of your mattress being at the end of its life.
  • Does your mattress creek or groan when you move on it?
  • Is waking up hard or painful to do?
  • Consider the age of your mattress, if it is over 10 years old it is VERY likely needing replacement
  • If you stand over your mattress, can you see your body impression? Does it sag or look work out?
These are all pretty telltale signs that your mattress has had it and needs to be replaced, and these days you have a few options to replace it with! Regular Innerspring mattresses, hybrid memory foam mattresses, gel memory foam mattresses. There are a few things you should know:

  • If your experiencing lower back pain it is likely due to your mattress being to soft. - This isn't ALWAYS the case, but it is due to inadequate support in your lower back area. As we age, we tend to need a firmer and firmer mattress to ensure your spines are fully supported and kept in the correct alignment.
  • Upper Back pain is a dead on indication that your mattress is too soft - If your upper back is giving you grief, then it is almost certain that your bed is too soft for you and needs to be replaced.
  • A firmer mattress has a few caveats - A firmer mattress does provide better support for your spine, especially your lower back, but if you are a side sleeper, it will also put more pressure on your shoulders and hips when you are lying down. Fortunately for you there are mattresses that are designed to retain a firmer feel and combat the pressure points in the shoulder and hip area.

Experience A Hybrid Mattress

Sealy Posturepedic has a line of hybrid mattresses that deliver a full line-up that covers every comfort level you can imagine. These mattresses are designed to be half gel memory foam, on top that will help keep you cool and soften the blow to your shoulders and hips, while keeping the Posturepedic support that many people have come accustomed to down below the foam, so you still retain the firmness you need. Memory Foam is where its at!

Memory foam beds also provide you with a few good options for relieving back pain. Memory foam  is designed to provide contoured support to your entire body. Which by definition keeps your spine a much better alignment.

Innerspring Mattresses can Still do the Trick!

Innerspring mattresses are always improving and these days they can still provide you with the support you are looking for without sacrificing comfort in anyway. Just be sure to give each one you try a few minutes to fully test it out. (Don't lay down and immediately get up) Lay down and take time with each one you are considering so you know you are getting the right mattress for your needs.

Love your mattress? There are other things you can try.

If you just don't want to give up your mattress there are a few things you can do to try and improve your sleeping experience.
  • Try a pillow under the knees - If you sleep on you back, putting a pillow under your knees is a great way to relieve lower back tension without buying a new mattress.
  • A pillow BETWEEN the knees  - If you sleep on your side, a pillow between the knees is a good way to keep your hips and lower back in good alignment.
  • A pillow UNDER the chest - If you are a stomach sleeper sleeping on a mattress that is too soft to support your sleeping position, a pillow under the chest may help keep your spine in the proper alignment.
Try these different methods out and see if they help your back pain issues. If they don't work for you, it may be time to start looking at purchasing a new mattress!
