Leggett & Platt Didn’t Just Raise The Bar, They Made It Disappear!

There is one thing that tends to stand out when you start looking for an adjustable bed base. That is the big, bold retainer bar. The purpose of the bar is pretty simple, to keep the mattress in place when the bed is on the move. Easy enough and makes a lot of sense. Once a blanket is on the bed the bar goes out of sight and essentially out of mind. Until it’s time to change the sheets, then the bar gives you a stiff reminder that it is still around.

Leggett & Platt wanted to streamline the adjustable base system and one thing that had to go was the retainer bar, otherwise known as the hospital bar. In order to do this they had to figure out how to keep the mattress in place while the bed was being adjusted. They came up with a unique design that is proprietary to Leggett & Platt. They call it the MicroHook retention system.

The MicroHook system consists of two strips that run across the width of the base. The strips are made out of a velcro like material that grabs onto the mattress and keeps it in place while the base is in motion. MicroHook will work with any mattress without anything additional required. Once the mattress is placed on the base the MicroHook system will attach itself and keep the mattress in the same spot.

MicroHook first appeared on the Leggett & Platt Prodigy 2.0 Adjustable Base that arrived in early 2016. The Prodigy 2.0 is packed with additional features that complement the update to the Prodigy line. But Leggett & Platt feel that everyone should get a chance to experience the MicroHook system and have included it on the lower priced Falcon adjustable base as well.

Leggett & Platt understand that for some people change can be hard. The retainer bar has been on adjustable based beds for a long time. Some people like to decorate their bed frame with a dust ruffle. A dust ruffle will cover up the MicroHook system causing it to not be effective and making a retainer bar necessary. One could assume that in order to bring the retainer bar back there would be an additional fee. Leggett & Platt will include the retainer bar with their adjustable bases. This way they are making the choice yours, not telling you what you have to do.

Removing the retainer bar was just the first of many innovations that Leggett & Platt are bringing to their adjustable bases. They listen to the consumer and their new adjustable bases are a prime example of keeping what the consumer wants in mind.
